For Warhol, I showed up at the factory on 47th St. I remember a lot of aluminum foil on the walls. I was introduced to Andy and we did this totally alone. Andy did not talk to me even though we both come from Pittsburgh. I didn't really know what to say to him. I should have talked about our shared place of birth maybe. I don't think we had any mutual friends.

I remember going to this pretty nondescript place to shoot. Andy went into the bathroom, left the door open, and leaned on the sink to carefully "groom" his nose hairs. Then he was ready. I took this shot and some others by a window. It didn't occur to me that he was wearing a wig. It didn't occur to me that all these years later I would find this yellow folder, with this shooting in it, that I had long forgotten about.

About George Lange has worked for Duane Michals and Annie Leibovitz before establishing his own career. His work has appeared in Vogue, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Esquire, People and The New York Times, among other publications. He shot many of the iconic images from Friends, Frasier, Dawson’s Creek, and Seinfeld, as well as Sophia Loren, ads for and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
