George Lange Steve Jobs & Bill Gates
George Lange Steve Jobs & Bill Gates
Who: Steve Jobs & Bill Gates
Date: 7/21/91
What: Fortune Magazine
Where: Steve Jobs’ House in Mountain View
This was shot in 1992 for a Fortune cover at Steve Job’s house. From what I know, it is the only posed photograph of them ever taken. They were whispering the most competitive craziness to each other while smiling at me, competitive and crazy tough. “You will never beat me at anything,” Bill Gates said under his breath to Jobs. Then he adjusted it a bit, “You may tie me, but you will never beat me.” High tech gangsters.
About George Lange has worked for Duane Michals and Annie Leibovitz before establishing his own career. His work has appeared in Vogue, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Esquire, People and The New York Times, among other publications. He shot many of the iconic images from Friends, Frasier, Dawson’s Creek, and Seinfeld, as well as Sophia Loren, ads for and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
